Joystick

I’ve had this light for about a year now, and it has truely opened up riding at night. I have a cross country commute that can be ridden in winter at 9/10ths with the light mounted on the helmet. All bar the most technical routes can be ridden in pitch black. Not raced with these but bet you could. Spent ages umming and erring before splashing out, and pleased I did. Unit is tiny, lightweight and lasts for about 4 hours on full beam (upto 10 hours on the lowest and you can still ride off road on this setting, just a bit slower). Also use for running on canal tow-paths at night, and even saw me up Mont Blanc (although had to hold in hand). Totally reccommend. Would love to see how powerfull the ones with 4 LEDs are. Car drivers even honk their horns if pointed at them (at least I know they saw me).

Bought the first version of the Joystick MaXx earlier this year, and have been using it regularly both on my daily commutej, and for evening MTB rides. I’ve got it mounted on the side of my helmet (being tall, i was hitting it on low overhanging branches from time to time with it mounted on top of my helmet), and have a lanyard attached just incase it gets caught on something and pops out of its bracket (this has happened a few times, and the lanyard has saved me from having to hunt around for my light, which could be tricky if the light isn’t turned on …) I also purchased the single cell piggy back battery which is mounted on the back of my helmet, and the combination is fantastic off road – gives me up to 6 hours of useable light, and at least 3 hours on full power! The weight of the Joystick by itself (without the piggy back battery) is barely noticeable, and when you take into account that there’s no external leads or additional battery to carry, it’s an unbeatable helmet mounted light! I do notice the extra weight when the piggy back battery is added, but I’m still able to go on long rides without any discomfort – well worth it imo for the extra run time. As far as I can tell, the only difference between version 1 and version 2 (apart from a choice of colours) is the smart charge port. If riding off road, I also use an Exposure MaXx for technical sections, and the combination of both lights is just awesome. I have also been on quite a few group rides (off road at night) using just my Joystick MaXx, and have had no trouble being able to see where I’m going to keep up with the group. So, to cut a long story short, this is an awesome light, which is why I’ve given it 5 stars.

Accidentally put the Joystick in a 2 hour washing cycle along with the rest of my cycling kit and it still works as good as new! So, this thing is seriously water tight.

This light is fabulous. It sits really comfortably on the helmet and lights up the night. Very strong, reliable and all round fab!

Great light! I use it on my helmet in combination with my MaXx-D and it’s just amazing how the trails get lighten up in front of me. Great value!

Just had my first ride home from work and this is the business. Riding on pitch black, narrow country lanes is now a breeze. The beam of light is superb and the rest of the road is lit up. The addition of the red I ensured I was seen. Cars dipped their beams from a long way off and slowed down. Especially if you flashed them! Incredibly light and easy to use. This is a must buy.

I commute within London and need bright lights to deter cars from cutting me up. I therefore have two Lupine lights, the Edison and Wilma, which are (or have been) the brightest on the market and bought a joystick as a backup helmet light. The joystick is by far the most user friendly, in that the battery is integrated, and very tough. On one occassion, it fell out of my pocket and was run over by following cars. Bit scratched, but still working a year later. I am so impressed that I am going to sell the Lupines and buy another Joystick; sincerely recommended.

A beautifully made light that is a featherweight but still packs a punch. I use this light as a strobe on my helmet to catch attention of motorists who do not always notice a low recumbent rider. It also serves as a secondary light when I’m travelling quickly through poorly lit areas at night. It casts a very even beam which is surprisingly wide and intense for such a small light. Whilst I have not tested the capacity of the battery to its limit, I have no reason to doubt manufacturer’s claims

Owned this light for a year now and use it all the time, biking, camping and night kayaking sticking gaffer tape over the charging port water proofs it, all ways in a bag or the car just in case! I’ve found that on most night rides i’ve only nearly run it down once and that was over four hours flicking between the different modes and in conjunction with the “white eye add on” which i felt i needed to really let the bike go on those fast technical down hills. I found the white eye can be a bit fiddly when switching between modes, but worth the effort when it doubles the brightness and increases your speed but that’s another story. Bottom line is this piece of kit is excellent and money well spent. i rode with just this light for six months and it was more than enough for climbs, fast flats and down hills. It’s only when you up the game that you start to feel that may be you want more light, the white eye is a cheaper buy a bar mounted system and more than enough for me at the moment and i like to ride down hills at a good rate of knots. You won’t ever have to worry about struggling to get back from a ride that went a little bit past bed time, just put in you pack or pocket and forget it till you need it On its own and used wisely you can get a good five hours out of this little fella on a tough bike ride. And the flashing mode when on the roads makes any thing with a reflective surface, signs, number plates and cop cars flash like beacons for a good thirty yards making drivers pay attention to what’s making it happen. A must have bit of kit if you love being out in the dark!!

I run this brilliant little light along with a exposure enduro maxx on the bars and its a great combination for 24hr racing. When on the helmet i use a lanyard for peace of mind that im not going to lose it in a crash or low branches. The burn time is good and with a low weight you can easily forget its on your helmet. The helmet mount is simple and works well and with no wires its a really good package

If you have the money, this is a very good buy! I recomend it!

I like this light, sure it’s not the brightest light you can buy but if someone doesn’t see you coming they’ve got serious observation issues & it lights the road/path up on high very effectively. Functionally I like the way you cycle through high, medium & low settings while the strobe setting can be activated quickly from any brightness setting. An indication of the power setting you’ve just moved to on the back of the light it is really useful during hours when you want a light on but can’t really tell what setting it’s at. At first I found it a little hard to go straight to strobe, I’d accidentally turn the light off but it took me less than 3 commuting hours, also you have to set the smart port to turn the redeye on every time you turn the light on which was a little disappointing. Another thing that’s disappointing is it doesn’t have a great run time when combined with a redeye, about 2-2 1/2 hours, but it lasts more than enough for 45min commute & gives plenty of warning before the battery is depleted. A very good light for those who don’t want to spend over £200 on a light that lets you see on unlit roads as well as be seen.

Bought this to run alongside my Blackburn X8 system. The mount is brilliant and the C-bracket is not as loose as it appears. Also, the ball joint is stiff so it can’t be knocked out of position easily. The light is concentrated and white. This thing has an equivalent brightness and run time to the Blackburn system but is a fraction of the weight. Amazing. Not entirely sure how good it would be at racing..good enough for most XC though. A definate buy as a helmet light.

light output from this is amazing have used on single track and this copes well run times have been as advertised super light weight so you hardly notice it on your helmet the helmet mount kit is simple and effective light is easy to turn on and off even with thick winter gloves (riding in minus 5 degrees centigrade) would recommend installation of a lanyard to go from light to helmet as in case of fall light doesnt go missing will look at other exposure products in the future

First spin last night and happy enough. Found it fine for relatively straighforward XC trails (Ballinsatoe)at (my) moderate-quick pace, though when things got tricky or when the pace pushed on I would have liked a bit more light. Almost bought a L&M Stella 200 – buddy has one and I liked it, but liked the idea of the extra 40 lumens plus ‘no cables’. However, now reckon the Stella gives marginally better light – could be down to a better beam rathar than more power. That said this is a very good light and will do the job for me – until of course I get tempted by some supper offer on a good bar mounted light!

Good light, easy to use and excellent helmet mount. Very rarely feel the need for more light than these give out and 3 hours on brightest setting is fine for most nights. The medium setting would be fine for smooth XC but nothing too technical, but the lowest brightness is for road only.

Bought this light last week to run alongside my Light and Motion Arc Ultra. Tried it on its own to see what it could do and I can honestly say it runs rings around the more expensive light. It is void of a central spot and spreads even light in all directions. It is also a lot warmer color than the Ultra so it shows up more obstacles on the trail without glaring back off rocks etc…. Top Buy.

Enlightening
Pros: Durable, Great Value, High Quality, Lightweight
“This is the first ‘modern’ light I’ve bought after my old cateye lead acid battery get-up gave up the ghost.
The difference in illumination is stark. The difference in weight is bonkers. Miles better light than my old system. The unit is well made and looks like it’ll put up with a good few knocks..
Used it for commuting on rural A roads thus far. The singletrack’s beckoning though. Those dark at 3pm days may not be so bad afterall…”
Birds start singing, they think its dawn…
Pros: Durable, Lightweight
“…but it’s just me (and my endurance lights).
I bought this alongside the Enduro Maxx2 and the pair work together beautifully. The Joystick alone though is more than enough to make cars slow down for you when your between trails.
I used to ride behind my cycling companions because of the poor quality items I previously used (to ashamed to say what they were)! Now I’m blazing the trail. No longer held back by poor visibility, struggling to make out the shadows and silhouettes ahead.
Given the cost I was fearful of buying a white elephant, but rest assured get one of these and your riding with a beast of a light. Worth every penny.”
Pros: High Quality, Lightweight, Versatile
Cons: Expensive, Unattractive, Limited Color Choices
“extremely bright little front light for its size that has seen me get home safely through the winter on poorly lit roads/cycle paths without being killed by anyone coming the other way, comes with helmet mount as well so you can have the light shining exactly where you are looking which can be helpful”
Life saver
Pros: Durable, High Quality, Adjustable, Lightweight
Cons: Expensive
“This is the second one I have purchased. Good lightweight light, with an amazing performance. Disappointed that it did not come with an attachment for the handlebar. This plastic clip-in attachement used to be included.”
